Wisdom in the Poetry of Abu Duwad al-Iyadi: A Descriptive and Analytical Study

The genre of wisdom (Hikmah) in poetry and literary heritage has remained one of the primary themes in which numerous poets excelled throughout the ages, or explored within specific stanzas and poems as dictated by circumstances or occasions. This study examines the theme of wisdom, its connotations, and its subjects within the Diwan of Abu Duwad al-Iyadi, a prominent pre-Islamic poet. It tracks his poems and fragments to elucidate the facets of wisdom and the philosophical touches the poet interspersed throughout his work. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical methodology, which entails presenting various poetic texts and fragments reflecting elements of wisdom, analyzing them to reveal their underlying themes and central issues. The study reached several significant results, most notably: the diversity of wisdom themes in Abu Duwad al-Iyadi's poetry, which were not confined to a single dimension. Furthermore, the acceptance of the inevitability of death and mortality emerged as one of the most prominent themes of wisdom addressed by the poet, alongside other findings detailed within the research.
