Roots of Chadian Political Thought: Between Traditional Legacies and Colonial Influence—A Study of Administrative Transformations, Armed Conflicts, and Their Social Impacts

Abstract

This study examines the roots of political thought in Chad and the impact of French colonialism on the emergence of armed conflicts and their social and political repercussions. It focuses on analyzing traditional heritage and governance structures before independence, as well as the role of political parties and successive governments in shaping the modern Chadian state. The study also investigates how French colonial policies contributed to internal divisions and the escalation of armed conflicts. The results indicate that Chadian political thought is deeply rooted in traditional heritage, and that political parties and governments have played a dual role in both state stability and the exacerbation of internal divisions at certain periods. Furthermore, French colonialism contributed to the emergence of armed conflicts, which had significant social impacts, such as migration and poverty, as well as political repercussions on state stability and institutional effectiveness. Based on these findings, the study recommends enhancing the understanding of traditional heritage in policy-making, strengthening political parties and governments, addressing the legacies of colonialism, preventing armed conflicts, and promoting social and political development to ensure state stability and sustainable development.
