The Effectiveness of Government Health Expenditure in Improving Healthcare Services in Iraq for the Period 2005-2021

Abstract

This study aims to clarify the impact of government health expenditure on certain healthcare indicators during the period (2005-2021). The study's problem was summarized by the low government expenditure in the health sector and its inability to advance this vital sector. As for the objective, the study sought to highlight the importance and role of government health expenditure in the health sector, and accordingly, the main hypothesis was based on the weak impact of the aforementioned expenditure on the health sector. To encompass the study's subject, healthcare services in Iraq, and the importance and components of government health expenditure were addressed. It was found that the impact of government health expenditure was weak due to its relatively low level. Finally, the study adopted several recommendations, the most important of which is for the government to introduce investment in health as a tool of economic policy, as most countries that have introduced investment in health have seen an improvement in the level of healthcare services.
