During Tun Abdul Razak’s era (1970–1976), Malaysia underwent major economic reforms. Following the 1969 ethnic riots, the government launched the New Economic Policy (NEP) aimed at poverty eradication and wealth redistribution among ethnic groups, particularly between Malays and Chinese. Abdul Razak emphasized rural development, education, and agricultural modernization, while strengthening the state’s role in economic planning. He also promoted economic diversification to reduce reliance on rubber and tin, paving the way for new industries. These policies improved living standards and laid the foundation for a more balanced national economy.
