Turkish Intervention and Its Impact on Political Stability in Post -2011 Libya

Abstract

This research examines the impact of Turkish intervention on political stability in Libya in the post-2011 period, using a historical and analytical approach to understand the motives and repercussions of this intervention. The study reveals that the Turkish intervention was not a sudden development but has deep historical roots, yet it took new forms after the February Revolution, driven by multiple motives including economic, military, and geopolitical interests.
The research provides a detailed analysis of Turkey's role since the beginning of the Libyan revolution, and how it evolved from a position opposing international intervention to a key player supporting the Government of National Accord, and concluding security and maritime agreements to secure its interests in the Eastern Mediterranean. The study confirms that this intervention contributed to complicating the Libyan crisis and intensifying the conflict between the warring parties, which has hindered state-building and stability efforts.
The research concludes that the Turkish intervention had negative effects on political stability in Libya, prolonged the crisis, and directly impacted the political settlement process, which requires Turkey and the international community to reconsider their policies in a way that serves the interests of the Libyan people and promotes peace and stability in the country.
